It is openly evident in British Society that british public is decriminated against caste in asian communities.
The facts and figures can be collected and provided to support this.
We strongly recommend and endorse the proposed amendments in the Single Equality Bill to address CASTE as a protected category along with other strands that are being harmonised to outlaw all forms of descrimination.
Regards.

Lynne

Glad to see that you are arguing for stronger protection for breastfeeding mums beyond the arbitrary 26 weeks as currently in the bill.

Please don't give up on this one.
(Glad to see Evan Harris is supporting breastfeeding children too!)

Anonymous - totally agree - and that is the Liberal Democrats position on this. Firstly, authorities do consider those issues already and many pots of money are already targetted on deprivation. Secondly -
this is a terribly weak gesture towards dealing with the greatest
inequality - which is that of socio economic status. That's why we have attacked the Government for throwing this in at the last minute to seem as if this is something they are tackling - but in reality is a message - and
legislation isn't just about messages. So - in Committee we are taking the view it does no harm - but equally does very little good. And we have asked the Government to explain what practical difference this will make. Their answer is that the inspectorates that inspect public authorities will monitor that they have 'had regard to socio economic inequality' and if the policies and strategies do not deliver a narrowing of the gap - we will be informed etc. So - toothless in the end - but you can argue (as they did) that it does no harm
and compels authorities when spending public money to consider this aspect.
Can someone explain what practical difference this law is supposed to make? Organistaions will have "a duty to consider" - then what? You are piling up the groups which could conceivably be discriminated against, but I can't see how the law will actually affect anything. Equality needs to be about something much more concrete than this.

Well you won't get this government to outlaw discrimination on the ground of paternity - they hate men and fathers and have proved so countless times. Of course as a result we're all suffering the serious and wide ranging consequences of so many children growing up without their dads.

I noticed that due to the recession they've even decided against giving fathers additional paternity leave, thus leaving dads here with the shortest paternity leave in Europe.

Shame Lynne hasn't noticed such scandalous backtracking and hasn't spoken out against such sexism here on this blog.
