News reaches me that I have been nominated for one of the Stonewall Annual Awards – obviously the political one. Nominated politicians include new Speaker John Bercow, secretary of state for culture, media and sport Ben Bradshaw, Labour MP Chris Bryant and me!
Since becoming an MP. I have been nominated and shortlisted for quite a lot of public awards: blogging, female politician of the year, New Statesman website of the year etc etc. So far – always the bridesmaid. I suspect, somehow, my unbroken record will continue.

It would be really interesting for you to tell us on your blog, why you think you have been nominated for the Stonewall Award, Lynne.
Well – I would like to think it’s because of my campaigning on a number of issues such as: equality in blood donation (currently gay men have a blanket ban on donating blood – and my argument during the Equality Bill etc has been that it should be risk based on behaviour – not blanket ban); have fought for harassment of gay kids in school to be explicily against the law on the face of the Bill; have and am still trying to get this stupid government to understand the importance of gender identity issues and so on and so on. But it may just be that Stonewall think that they need to nominate a LibDem to even things up. Perhaps Stonewall would enlighten me!
