To be fair I should think at least half of that has plenty to do with the traumatic nature of much of the work and it's long term psychological impact. Also there's the low pay too and pathetic compensation from suffering injuries which doesn't exactly help people to get onto the property ladder (or stay on it if severely injured). And guess what? It is actually, beneath it all, an excuse to continue imprisoning schoolchildren beyond school-leaving age. And wouldn't that work so well?
