Re-development of St Ann’s Hospital – have your say
I was delighted when the local Mental Health Trust decided not to close down St Ann’s Hospital. The Trust is now working to redevelop the site as a modern health facility providing not just mental health care but also other specialist health services too. Part of the site will also be used to build new homes under the re-development plans.
The Trust is consulting with local people about the plans. It is putting its plans on display at Mayfield House, St Ann’s Hospital, St Ann’s Road until 3rd August. The display will also visit Hornsey library on 3rd July from 2pm to 8pm.

My uncle spent several weeks in St Ann’s last year after he had a stroke. I was very impressed by the ward staff but felt sorry for everyone because the surroundings were so drab. The garden could have been lovely if it was maintained. We all know that plenty of greenery is good for both mental and physical health. Travelling from Bath each time I visited Michael, it was good that there was plenty of car parking. Of course the tubes, buses and trains makes it accessible too.
I did have difficulty coordinating my uncle’s discharge plan. This was completely mismanaged by social services who claimed overwork (Haringey). The social worker did not even visit my uncle which resulted in him having to go back into hospital again as home arrangements were inadequate. Elderly people can have a cluster of physical and mental health needs which all need to be met. When we are talking about elders from a different ethnic background, these needs are even more complex.
