Far too often, Haringey Council doesn't consult properly with residents over planning matters.
To make matters worse, we see development proposals that attempt to cram far too many people into too small a
space, putting pressure on our green spaces and public services. Unless the Council consistently takes a tough line,
it just encourages developers to put in proposals which are too big, too dense and inappropriate for their sites.
I gave a speech on this topic at the 2005 national Liberal Democrat conference - you can read it online.
Useful website
There's a little gem of an official website at www.planningportal.gov.uk. You can find out lots of useful information on how the planning system works (useful for campaigners against over-development!) plus look up planning applications near where you live and other useful stuff.
