Aeroplane noise survey

Many thanks to everyone who took part in my summer 2005 email survey about noise from aeroplanes, which asked whether it is a problem. The map below is a summary of the results - blue indicates that a majority of people in that area said it was, and red indicates that a majority said it isn't a problem.

As you can see from the map, in large parts of Stroud Green and Wood Green this isn't an issue for many people, but in contrast in areas like Highgate and Archway it is much more of an issue.

Overall, around 45% of people said it was a problem for them, and 55% said it wasn't (though of course as this wasn't a full-fledged opinion poll you shouldn't read too much into the exact percentages).

I am following up on various issues people raised in the survey.

Answers to two of the questions I've asked in Parliament about the issue are readable here and here. Many people also mentioned noise from helicopters (particularly police helicopters), which appears to have increased significantly in recent times. I'm currently getting further details on what the policy is for use of police helicopters and what the statistics are for their use.

You can lodge your own complaints about airplane noise by writing to Flight Evaluation Officer, Heathrow Airport, 234 Bath Road, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 5AP or by emailing noise_complaints@baa.com
