ID cards

UNLIKELY BED-FELLOWS: Campaigning against Labour's mandatory ID cards with George Galloway MP (No2ID rally, 2005)
I am opposed to Labour's plans for mandatory ID cards - they will be very expensive, illiberal and an ineffective way
of fighting crime. The money would be much better spent on putting more police on our streets. One of my newspaper
columns goes into this in more detail and you can support the campaign at the special Lib Dem website, www.libdems.org.uk/noidcards.
Mobile phone crime
The police and mobile phone industry have started making good progress in fighting mobile phone crime. It's now much easier to register your phone as stolen and to stop it being used to make calls.
I've produced a simple guide on how to register and protect your own mobile which you can download (pdf format).
Muswell Hill gets its front counter back
Due to a lack of funding, Muswell Hill police station was forced to close its front desk to the public in 2000.
I have been working with residents, the police and my Liberal Democrat colleagues in Fortis Green ward
(where the station is located) to get the front counter restored. London's top policeman, Sir John Stevens, reopened it in October 2004.

SUCCESS! Cutting the celebratory cake with the Met's Sir John Stevens to mark the reopening of the front counter at Muswell Hill police station.
